Adoption of Polish ChildrenGeneral information regarding adoption from PolandThe following are the basic Polish adoption requirements, other more specific requirements are described in detail in our information packet that is sent to all our applicants and also may be found in our manual Polish Adoption Research Guide. Included in the packet or the manual is a checklist of services we provide and the associated fees. There are definite advantages when adopting from Poland. Please send us an E-mail with your questions. We provide adoption consulting services and offer literature regarding Polish adoptions. We offer information for those couples who prefer to do-it-yourself. Here is letter written by one of our adoption clients with a picture of child and family. Click here for some useful links. U.S. Citizenship Not required. However, if the couple is living in the United States, one partner must be a U.S. citizen in order to fulfill INS requirements and bring the child into this country. Because the Polish adoption program is offered worldwide, citizenship of particular country is required, i.e.: a couple living in Great Britain must have British citizenship. US Residency: Not required. There are numerous qualified couples throughout the world, and we can serve their adoption needs. This includes such tasks as arranging for appropriate legal documentation as required by Polish law, arranging for and coordinating all adoption procedures in Poland including legal representation; and providing translation, housing and escort services. U.S. INS Requirements: Couple's within the U.S. must comply. Non residents and non U.S citizen applicants must comply with the immigration laws and procedures of their home country. From October 13th 1998, the fee for Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative has changed from $155.00 to $405.00.It effects forms I-600 and I-600A, applications for advance processing used for international adoption. Choice and Number of Children: No choice limitation other than availability. Polish adoption Programs offers healthy children of all ages. The youngest would be approx. 1 year old . Also, waiting for placement are sibling groups and children with special needs. Adoption of more then one child at the same time does not carry any extra expenses. Children's Health Considerations: Before a child is allowed to immigrate to the United States, there are two medical examinations to assure that the child is physically and mentally healthy. One is conducted by the Public Orphanage, the second one is conducted by the physician or a panel of physicians appointed by the U.S. embassy in Warsaw. Polish orphanages have levels of care ( facilities, medical personnel) that are far superior than those in the former Soviet Union, Rumania or the Baltic States. You could be provided with information on the childs background and medical history before you make a decision. The possibility of finding a children with fetal alcohol syndrome are extremely rare and I have never heard of children with HIV disease being adopted from Poland. Parents Age: No age limitations. However, if you want to adopt a child or children under the age of four, the parents age should not exceed 44 unless you intent to adopt a sibling group. Travel requirements: Parents do have to travel and bring the child into their country of origin. Polish law requires that the adopting parents come to Poland to meet the child before the adoption petition is submitted to the Guardian Court. Applicants: Married couples and single applicants can be considered. Prospective adoptive applicants need not be of Polish descent, but ties to Poland may, in some cases, be a favorable factor.
